Following YouTube, Google has announced the discontinuation of support for IE6, confirming it will now support IE7 and higher, Firefox 3.0 and higher, Chrome 4.0 and above, and Safari 3.0 and up.
The change will begin on March 1, with Google starting this week to issue warning messages to IE6 users when accessing various Google programs.
For those still using the 'trash browser' IE6, you're now forced to an overdue upgrade. Released in 2001, IE6 is a 9-year-old browser. IE7 or IE8 are significantly better, specifically IE8 which is considered the best among IE versions, though not on par with other browsers like Google Chrome or Firefox.
I mainly use Google Chrome, resorting to IE8 only for transactions. Nowadays, even Korean sites are mostly compatible with Chrome, not to mention the significant speed advantage. Hopefully, this move by Google encourages major portals like Naver or Daum to bravely initiate an IE6 phased-out movement.
